Non-singlet coefficient functions for charged-current deep-inelastic scattering to the third order in QCD

We have calculated the coefficient functions for the structure functions F_2, F_L and F_3 in nu-nubar charged-current deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) at the third order in the strong coupling alpha_s, thus completing the description of unpolarized inclusive W^(+-) exchange DIS to this order of massless perturbative QCD. In this brief note, our new results are presented in terms of compact approximate expressions that are sufficiently accurate for phenomenological analyses. For the benefit of such analyses we also collect, in a unified notation, the corresponding lower-order contributions and the flavour non-singlet coefficient functions for nu+nubar charged-current DIS. The behaviour of all six third-order coefficient functions at small Bjorken-x is briefly discussed.Comment: 6 pages, LaTeX (PoS style), 1 eps-figure. Autonomous Locomotion Mode Transition Simulation of a Track-legged Quadruped Robot Step Negotiation

Multi-modal locomotion (e.g. terrestrial, aerial, and aquatic) is gaining increasing interest in robotics research as it improves the robots environmental adaptability, locomotion versatility, and operational flexibility. Within the terrestrial multiple locomotion robots, the advantage of hybrid robots stems from their multiple (two or more) locomotion modes, among which robots can select from depending on the encountering terrain conditions. However, there are many challenges in improving the autonomy of the locomotion mode transition between their multiple locomotion modes. This work proposed a method to realize an autonomous locomotion mode transition of a track-legged quadruped robot steps negotiation. The autonomy of the decision-making process was realized by the proposed criterion to comparing energy performances of the rolling and walking locomotion modes. Two climbing gaits were proposed to achieve smooth steps negotiation behaviours for energy evaluation purposes. Simulations showed autonomous locomotion mode transitions were realized for negotiations of steps with different height. The proposed method is generic enough to be utilized to other hybrid robots after some pre-studies of their locomotion energy performances

Sources of sport confidence, imagery type and performance among competitive athletes: The mediating role of sports confidence

    Get PDF
Aim: This study explored the mediating role of sport confidence upon (1) sources of sport confidence-performance relationship and (2) imagery-performance relationship. Methods: Participants were 157 competitive athletes who completed state measures of confidence level/sources, imagery type and performance within one hour after competition. Results: Among the current sample, confirmatory factor analysis revealed appropriate support for the nine-factor SSCQ and the five-factor SIQ. Mediational analysis revealed that sport confidence had a mediating influence upon the achievement source of confidence-performance relationship. In addition, both cognitive and motivational imagery types were found to be important sources of confidence, as sport confidence mediated imagery type-performance relationship. Conclusion: Findings indicated that athletes who construed confidence from their own achievements and report multiple images on a more frequent basis are likely to benefit from enhanced levels of state sport confidence and subsequent performance

Prospects for improved Λc\Lambda_c branching fractions

The experimental uncertainty on the branching fraction \b(\Lambda_c \to p K^- \pi^+) = (5.0 \pm 1.3)% has not decreased since 1998, despite a much larger data sample. Uncertainty in this quantity dominates that in many other quantities, including branching fractions of Λc\Lambda_c to other modes, branching fractions of bb-flavored baryons, and fragmentation fractions of charmed and bottom quarks. Here we advocate a lattice QCD calculation of the form factors in Λc→Λℓ+νℓ\Lambda_c \to \Lambda \ell^+ \nu_\ell (the case ℓ=e+\ell = e^+ is simpler as the mass of the lepton can be neglected). Such a calculation would yield an absolute prediction for the rate for Λc→Λℓ+νℓ\Lambda_c \to \Lambda \ell^+ \nu_\ell. When combined with the Λc\Lambda_c lifetime, it could provide a calibration for an improved set of Λc\Lambda_c branching fractions as long as the accuracy exceeds about 25%.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, version to be published in Phys.\ Rev.\

First Forcer results on deep-inelastic scattering and related quantities

We present results on the fourth-order splitting functions and coefficient functions obtained using Forcer, a four-loop generalization of the Mincer program for the parametric reduction of self-energy integrals. We have computed the respective lowest three even-N and odd-N moments for the non-singlet splitting functions and the non-singlet coefficient functions in electromagnetic and nu+nu(bar) charged-current deep-inelastic scattering, and the N=2 and N=4 results for the corresponding flavour-singlet quantities. Enough moments have been obtained for an LLL-based determination of the analytic N-dependence of the nf^3 and nf^2 parts, respectively, of the singlet and non-singlet splitting functions. The large-N limit of the latter provides the complete nf^2 contributions to the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension. Our results also provide additional evidence of a non-vanishing contribution of quartic group invariants to the cusp anomalous dimension.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX (PoS style), 4 eps-figures. Radio Observations of GRB Host Galaxies

We present 5.5 and 9.0 GHz observations of a sample of seventeen GRB host galaxies at 0.5<z<1.4, using the radio continuum to explore their star formation properties in the context of the small but growing sample of galaxies with similar observations. Four sources are detected, one of those (GRB 100418A) likely due to lingering afterglow emission. We suggest that the previously-reported radio afterglow of GRB 100621A may instead be due to host galaxy flux. We see no strong evidence for redshift evolution in the typical star formation rate of GRB hosts, but note that the fraction of `dark' bursts with detections is higher than would be expected given constraints on the more typical long GRB population. We also determine the average radio-derived star formation rates of core collapse supernovae at comparable redshift, and show that these are still well below the limits obtained for GRB hosts, and show evidence for a rise in typical star formation rate with redshift in supernova hosts.Comment: 15 pages, MNRAS accepte
